Geography is a unifying subject that describes our world. History, politics, geology, ecology – if it is about our earth, geography is the key to relating what we learn to where we are. Sadly, many American children cannot locate places on a map. If you don’t know where Ethiopia, Afghanistan or Korea are, how could you possibly care about foreign policy, famine or trade with these countries.
At Resource Games, their products are developed to teach youngsters basic location geography in a fun atmosphere. When children enjoy learning, teaching is much easier both at home and school.
But what makes a good game? The answer to this question really depends on who you ask. To a parent or teacher a good game should help children learn. To a child a good game is one that is fun to play. To a retailer it is one that sells well all year round. Their games deliver all three.
They are justly proud of the awards our games have earned over the years. In receiving the prestigious Parent’s Choice Gold Award in 1988 came this comment, "Take Off! is a rare game that will amuse and instruct an adult as well a first grader." In 1992, Take Off! earned the Canadian Toy Testing Council’s Top Ten Award amongst 1500 toys and games. Their games have also received praise from publications such as US News and World Report, Family Life Magazine, Curriculum Product News (award of Merit) and more.
Naturally, they also get satisfaction from customers who write to praise their efforts in providing entertaining and learning for the family with such comments as "These TerraCarta cards are terrific. They provided my children with hours of fun on their vacation and helped us learn more about the states."
Their guiding principle is to awaken a positive attitude towards the study of geography and to make a contribution toward solving the problem of geographic literacy among younger generations.
