Welcome to Regnery Publishing, the country’s leading publisher of conservative books. Since Henry Regnery founded the company back in 1947, they’ve focused on publishing books that challenge the status quo, books that spark a debate, and books that get people talking about the issues and questions we face as a country. From the very start, Regnery has been a major force within the conservative movement, publishing such authors as Russell Kirk (The Conservative Mind), William F. Buckley Jr. (God and Man at Yale), Whittaker Chambers (Witness), and many other giants of American conservatism. Regnery has also led the modern resurgence of conservative publishing over the past couple decades. Their list of authors reads like a “who’s who” of conservative thought and action, including Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Dinesh D’Souza, Newt Gingrich, Mark Steyn, Mark Levin, Ed Klein, David Horowitz, Laura Ingraham, Donald Trump, and many more. Regnery has boasted one of the best batting averages in the publishing business–placing more than fifty books on the New York Times bestseller list, including numerous books at #1. In addition to great conservative books, they also publish fascinating stories about American history through our Regnery History imprint, bringing new light to old subjects and introducing figures and topics that deserve attention, but may have been ignored in the past. Their children’s imprint, Regnery Kids, provides charming stories and beautiful illustrations while teaching children about history, science, and culture. Their children’s publishing program also includes Little Patriot Press, a series of educational books for young readers. Regnery has a long tradition of building strong minds and fostering rigorous debate, initially through partnerships with Human Events and the Great Books Foundation in the 1940s and, after lighting a political firestorm in academia with Buckley’s God and Man at Yale in 1951, by starting the company’s own line of quality classics called Gateway Editions. The Gateway imprint ultimately grew to include hundreds of titles from authors ranging from St. Augustine to Karl Marx, from Ambrose Bierce to the Japanese novelist Natsume Soseki, from Boethius to Carl von Clausewitz. From the 1950s through the 1970s, the company left its mark on a variety of genres, acquiring children’s publisher Reilly & Lee and pop culture publisher Cowles Book Company while releasing the “famous forty” Wizard of Oz books, psychological thriller Sybil, Loretta Lynn’s autobiography Coal Miner’s Daughter, and helping to introduce the Monty Python troupe to American audiences. Many of these titles formed the foundation of Contemporary Books Incorporated in 1977. Regnery moved from Chicago to Washington, D.C. in the 1980s and expanded into new genres in the 1990s, from the health and wellness imprint LifeLine Press to the business imprint Capital Press. Known previously as the Henry Regnery Company, Gateway Editions Limited, and Regnery Gateway Incorporated, Regnery Publishing became part of Eagle Publishing in 1993 and joined Salem Communications in 2014, where it lives within the Salem Eagle family of companies.
