5e DnD Villains to Threaten Campaigns, Challenge Players, and Inspire Adventures. What Stories Will You Tell?

Epic Campaigns start with extraordinary villains. This 5e supplement contains 12 unique villains and factions to disrupt your world and challenge your players.

Backstories and motives give each villain depth, their factions and resources affect your game world, and player backstory hooks get your players involved in ways they never imagined.

Topple Governments, Raze Civilizations, Unbalance Planes

Easily drop into an existing narrative or game world with modular storytelling.

The stories within you are ready to come forth. Use, steal, reskin, or reshape each villain as you see fit.

Villain Backstories and Motives

What makes a good villain extraordinary? Is it pride? Greed? Love? Revenge? Each villain's backstory helps you understand why they do what they do. As they say, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Some of these villains want to "save" the world. Some desire freedom from the gods. Some only wish to see their love again, and will burn the world to do so. And some may simply be addicted to wanting more.

No matter the case, by understanding each villain's motives, the players become invested in the narrative. Maybe they can defeat them off the battlefield and make them see that their methods are too extreme.

Factions That Disrupt Your World

Behind each villain is a cadre of followers who either believe in their master's vision, were coerced into it, or simply are in it for the money. Regardless, these factions have money, resources, lairs, land, belief systems, and more.

Each faction has become a problem in their own way, which the players will need to deal with. Trade gets disrupted, monsters are being created, and governments are falling apart.

Each villain and faction has been designed with modularity in mind so that they can easily drop into any existing campaign, game world, or adventure.

Player Backstory Connections

The collaborative storytelling experience gets only better when players are personally involved with villains.

Does your player believe that the villain is a divine messenger? Do they owe the villain a life debt? Was the player's family indoctrinated into the bad guy's cult?

Did your player make a pact with the villain?

Do your players think the Villain is on their side? Betrayal becomes so much more sweet!

Example Campaigns

With the vast resources each villain has at their command, they can influence the world on multiple fronts. But sometimes, pulling together the villain's resources to create a campaign can be tricky.

We have included an example campaign for each villain comprising of story hooks, a prologue hook, and 3-5 acts. Each example campaign sets your players off on a grand adventure to discover the villain's motives, stem the tide of destruction, and culminates in an epic showdown. Unless you join them, of course.

Bases and Locations

What villain doesn't have an evil lair or three for your party to storm? Each villain has locations of interest where they dictate the movement of their forces, build power, study the arcane, or hide out. Some are hidden while others lie in plain sight, daring to be challenged.
