Description

Logistics factors affected both the Axis and the Soviets during the four years of war in the East.

In 1941, the Axis faced a major logistics issue: quickly convert the conquered railyard to the European gauges before using them to resupply their spearheads.

In 1941, the retreating Soviets did their best to slow the Axis advance down in order to evacuate their factories beyond the Urals. And employed the notorious Scorched Earth Tactics to deny the enemy any usable oilfield, harbor, factory, mining and population center.

Later in the war, with the Axis on the defense, the Germans used the same tactics to prevent the Soviets from gaining logistical support via formerly German assets.

Beyond logistics, the most debated theme about the Russian Campaign is the time and resources wasted by the Axis in the Balkans. What if Greece had accepted Italians' request in October 1940? Would that have led to an even more massive deployment and employment of Axis forces for the Russian Campaign? And then, would Hitler have authorized the employment of the Fallschirmjäger to seize key objectives, such as river bends and Crimea?

No one has the answers... Now it is time to discover it while reliving history....
