Description

Tablut /b> is an ancient board game that comes from the region of Northern Scandinavia called Lapland. The game was discovered by Linnaeus, the noted Swedish botanist, who in 1732 journeyed almost 4,000 miles on foot and by small boat to this remote region.

In Tablut eight light-colored Swedes and their king are pitted against sixteen dark-colored Muscovites. Historically Russia was an enemy of Sweden from the ninth century off and on for some 1,000 years. The novel feature of Tablut is that each side has a different number of men and a different goal: The Swedes win if their king reaches any square along the perimeter of the board, the Muscovites' goal is to capture the king by rendering it unable to move.
