America the Wonderland (1000 Pieces)

America the Wonderland is an elaborate historical pictorial map depicting the United States in 1941. The creator, American illustrator Ernest Dudley Chase (1878-1966), was well known for his meticulous attention to detail on greeting cards and pictorial maps during the first half of the 20th century. Chase created nearly 50 pictorial maps in his lifetime from his studio in Winchester, Massachusetts. In his pursuit of perfection, Chase used a stippling technique which combines tiny dots to form an image. Chase utilized a tiny pen and viewed his work under a magnifying glass. This colorful pictorial map is a superb example of the painstaking nature of Chase's work. America the Wonderland is Chase's depiction of the lower 48 states, with their man-made and natural landmarks and monuments, and all that he considered to be "wonders" in 1941 America. The historical artwork has been altered to produce this puzzle.
