Description

Alco and its predecessors have been building locomotives since the 1850's. In 1929, Al co entered diesel production, but relying almost exclusively on General Electric equipment. Alco's main plant is in Schenectady, N.Y. Locomotive assembly is carried out there. Diesel engines are made at Auburn, N.Y. Between 1956 and 1960 Alco produced model DL 600 (RSD-15) with a 16 cylinders diesel engine rated at 2,400 HP. These engines were built in low or high nose version.
