Description

'Sebastopol, Sadowa and Sedan,' as the title suggests, was originally conceived to fill a glaring gap in available wargames rules, covering European Warfare in the second half of the nineteenth century. During that period both weapons and tactics developed rapidly. In 1850, during the immediately subsequent Crimean War, obsolete firearms similar to those used in the Napoleonic Wars were still employed by many armies and tactical practice had hardly changed at all, indeed the Russian Infantry fought almost exclusively in Napoleonic style close columns, whilst the British still clung to their linear deployment. By the end of the century, on the other hand, breach loading weapons and smokeless powder were in general use, and tropps manoeuvered and fought much as they did in the opening stages of World War I. In consequences we decided that though designed specifically for the period 1850-1900, we would tailor the rules such that they are suitable for most actions in the wider time span 1800-1914.
