Description

On June 6, 1942, Erich von Manstein's German 11th Army launched what would be the last assault on the besieged Soviet fortress of Sevastopol, the last episode of the campaign to conquer Crimea, which began in September. codenamed Störfang, the operation also served as a prelude to the German summer offensive of 1942, clearing the southern flank and freeing up forces to commit elsewhere on the front.

Von Manstein's Triumph is a card driven game for two players that simulates the battle, with each player in command of one of the participating factions. Troops represented by blocks maneuver on a zoned fortress map and are commanded through the use of cards representing orders, historical events, and equipment. The objective is to occupy the nerve centers of the defense and take control of the city.

The objective of the game for both players is to control more victory points than their rival at the end of the game. Victory points are earned by controlling the zones where they are printed inside a red banner. Initially they are all controlled by the Soviet player, so it will be the German player who must attack to conquer as many of them as possible. Likewise, the Axis player loses points for introducing reinforcement blocks into play, as indicated in rule 11 (Reinforcements). To keep track of this penalty, the corresponding points must be deducted from the total that the Axis player has at that time.
If both players end the game with the same number of victory points, the game will end in a draw.
