Wikinger (Vikings) (German Edition)

In Michael Kiesling’s Vikings, players compete for resources as each Viking settlement tries to build its presence on the islands surrounding the homeland. Each round, tiles with ships and lands are paired with one of five types of Viking settler: Warriors, Scouts, Nobles, Goldsmiths, Fisherman, and Boatsmen. These pairs are placed around a wheel that determines how much each of the sets cost to purchase. Players take turns picking out and paying for Viking settlers and newly discovered islands that will help them build their settlement and achieve the highest possible score at the end of each round.

Islands aren’t the only thing up for grabs, and your settlement may attract an attacking ship that will threaten your holdings. Fortunately, the Viking people are no strangers to battle. Fending off attackers can be profitable if done correctly. Work to place your homeland’s new holdings to maximize profits and points, while protecting your people from the local marauders.

Warriors will hold back the enemy, while other settler types bring their own rewards. If a newly acquired island can be placed with its paired settler, your homeland reaps the rewards of that settler’s work in the next round. Nobles, Scouts, and Fishermen yield victory points, and must be shielded from enemies in order to be counted in your final score. Protected Goldsmiths give you the power to buy exactly what you need in the next round. Boatsmen can offer much needed reinforcements to your Warriors, or they can bring in a new round of settlers once a range of islands is made safe.

Once the seas have settled, one player’s homeland is declared the victor. Players score points for their island discoveries and wealth, the invaders they’ve repelled, and how many Vikings have settled the area.
