“If I cannot whip Bobbie Lee, I will be willing to go home!”

That’s what General George B. McClellan told one of his brigade commanders. Two of his soldiers had just found Lee’s complete plan of attack in a discarded envelope.

There it was, all spelled out, and McClellan had it right on his desk. He was the beneficiary of the greatest security leak in American military history. But how it affected the outcome of bloody Antietam was something else again, as McClellan soon found out.
