Description

In the spring of 1864, Major General William T. Sherman launched his devastating assault against the city of Atlanta. The campaign culminated in the destruction of the city and a march of destruction against Georgia and her sister states.

The carnage and depredations of the Atlanta campaign are perhaps best known from Margaret Mitchell's novel Gone With the Wind and the movie of the same name. In fact, Sherman's assault into Georgia was one of the most important actions of the war as it sealed the downfall of the South by destroying its productive capacity and insuring Lincoln's reelection in 1864.

This book illuminates the battles against armies and civilians that took place during that epic struggle.
