Description

In all its many forms, The Dungeons and Dragons, and by extension TSR, logos have been an instantly recognizable beacon attracting players of D&D to the game that they love. The many variations of these sigils are often used to identify printings and can tell a person the relative age of an item at a glance. As TSR grew, more and more merchandise was produced and later logos saw themselves plastered on everything from posters and bookmarks to wallets and duffle bags.

Older logos saw very little of this fanfare and pomp, on the other hand. It’s uncommon to find an item featuring any of the early logos other than the games themselves. For this reason, the fact that this belt buckle features the second logo ever used by TSR makes it a true rarity.

But the fact that it is a belt buckle is also strangely noteworthy. The buckle was cast by Spec-Cast in Rockford Illinois, just a stone’s throw from the company’s original home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the casting was flawed and most buckles had the hook for the belt break within a very short time, and the hook on this buckle in particular is largely intact. The popularity of this buckle paved the way for a whole host of TSR branded buckles for everything from the RPGA logo, to individual campaign settings like Dark Sun and Planescape.

So capture a collectible that encapsulates not only the early history of TSR, but a long legacy of oddly specific memorabilia. It is bound to be a fine jewel in any collector’s trove, if not a pinnacle display piece for the truly dedicated lover of Dungeons and Dragons.
