Description

The 1st Battalion the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were in the Mediterranean theater for the whole of the war. From Palestine they joined Wavell’s forces in time to contribute their full share to the capture of Sidi Barrani in 1940.

They saw fighting in Crete - the sky thick with enemy paratroops - in Abyssinia and at El Alamein before they landed in Sicily as a “Brick” formation. In Italy, fighting all the way , they pushed steadily on through the Gustav Line, across the Arno, past the Gothic Line and over the Senio to victory.

Such is the story told in detail in this volume. It is a living account of men with their loathing for mud and joy in fruit blossom as much as it is factual military history, and the whole is permeated with the fine spirit of a great regiment.
