Description

This book contains these articles:

1-1 CAV in FTX "Sabre" and "Comanche Ramp"

The 1st Squadron, 1st US Cavalry Regiment "Black Hawk", based in Germany, conducted two exercises in early 2002. Since the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact there are no longer many opportunities for NATO troops to conduct large exercises in open civilian areas in Germany. However, that all changed with these two U.S. exercises, where this Cavalry Squadron was able to indulge in a tactical road march, and conduct combat in forested and 'urban' areas in a former U.S. base. There are numerous photos of Abrams M1A1HAs and Bradleys in action.

Sweden's Armor Might in "Operation Vareld 2003"

In March of 2003, the Swedish Army conducted its largest exercise of the year in central Sweden. Two mechanized battalion-sized battle groups were put through their paces in a combination of forested and urban terrain, incorporating such tactical movements as a breakthrough, flanking movements and seizing a village. The article feature generous numbers of photos of Swedish vehicles such as Stridsvagn 122 main battle tanks, CV 9040A armored infantry fighting vehicles, CV 90s and Brobandvagn scissors bridge-layers.

Black Boar Leopards - Leopards in "Schwarzer Keiler"

In its program of restructuring, the German Armor Branch is modernizing its fleet of Leopard tanks, including the upgrading of Leopard 2A5s to a 2A6 specification. In March 2004, Exercise "Schwarzer Keiler" (Black Boar) was conducted to give force-on-force maneuver and live-fire training for Panzerbataillion 203. This article covers Leopard 2A6s being prepared for a river crossing with snorkels, as well as the river crossing itself. In a fascinating array of subsequent attacks and counter attacks through forests, plains and over rivers, the objective is finally taken, action is well described in the text and in photographs. Featured vehicles include Leopard 2A4s, 2A6s, Fuchs PiFu, Buffel 3 ARV, Biber bridge-layer and Marders.

PLUS a 1/35 scale profile of "Night Stalkers" MH-60K
