9th/12th Royal Lancers

Exercise "Summer Charge" was an FTX at the regimental level held by the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) based at Bergen-Hohne. For some recon troops, this was their very first exercise in a civilian area in Germany. Along with the basic skills of close reconnaissance, guarding areas, securing the flanks, erecting and moving through checkpoints were major tasks reviewed during this exercise, with an eye toward future missions. Of interesting note is the "Desert Scimi", up-armored, desertised Scimitar deployed to Iraq.

Ulan: Austria's Multi-Role Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The Ulan AIFV is designed to go into battle with the Leopard 2A4 tanks. With the Ulan armored infantry fighting vehicle, the Austrian Army received a highly capable fighting machine that uses 21st century technology. Without a doubt, the vehicle has a high growth potential and will remain the AIFV of the Austrian Army for several decades.

OPFOR Men in Black

The 7th Army Training Command of the USAREUR maintains the best-trained opposition force in the world: the 1-4 Infantry Regiment (Warrior Battalion). For the 1-4 INF BN, their mission is to help train the USAEUR's mechanized, infantry, and airborne combat brigades with the mission statement "In a forward deployed environment, 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, conducts combat operations replicating opposing force doctrine to prepare USAREUR Brigade Combat Teams to fight and win throughout the full spectrum of conflict.
