Description

Players take the role of a major investor in the railroads during the massive expansion across the North American continent that took place during the 19th century. Depending on how you invest you may be the president of one (if not more!) of the historic lines that pushed west to the Pacific Ocean and responded to the cry "Go West!"

The wide open plains of Kansas were the stage for “Wild West” drama, and home of famous cities such as Dodge City and Wichita, and of others that are best remembered in the history books such as Baxter Springs and Junction City. Hardy settlers flooded into Kansas before, during, and after the American Civil War (1861-1865). The railroads were soon to follow.

After the Civil War there was a shortage of beef in the northern states. The railroads had not yet made their way to Texas, so ranchers there pushed north to the rail points in Kansas, creating dozens of cowtowns and making railroad operations in Kansas a very lucrative business. From 1866 to 1885 hundreds of thousands of Texas longhorns were driven annually to shipping points in Kansas. Some railroads carried that cattle, wheat and other foodstuffs to high demand markets in the East, while others continued on to the Rockies and even the distant Pacific Ocean.

Your goal as an Investor or Railroad President is to make money! Invest your money wisely, manage your companies shrewdly and you may make a name for yourself as one of the visionaries who opened the West!
