Description

General Wyche, the Commander of the 79th Infantry Division, had planned to launch his attack into the Parroy Forest on the 25th of September but was forced to delay the start date until the 28th of September, one day before the DV Corps was to pass the 6th Army Group control. The air attack began at 1400 hours and was followed by the ground assault kicked off by the 313th and 315th Infantry Regiments, at 1630 hours. Due to poor flying conditions less than 15% of the aircraft scheduled to participate actually arrived at the attack had limited effect on the German defenders.

The two hour interval between the last air strikes and the beginning of the 79th Division's ground attack provided the Germans plenty of time to recover from the bombardment and prepare for the coming ground attack. The men of the 79th Division quickly became locked in a bitter struggle with the German defenders.

Opposing the American attack was the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division and supporting units from the LVIII Panzer Corps.

Parroy Forest is a company/battalion level simulation of those battles in October 1944. Players control the various German and American forces which they took part. The American player must coordinate their attack to penetrate the front lines of the Germans and drive them eastward. The German player must use their forces to slow the American drive and maintain the integrity of their front line, while preserving their forces and preventing the American from achieving their geographical obectives.
