Description

Dr. Patrick Cory, the Nobel Prizewinning biochemist who figures in Donovan's Brain, is the world's leading authority on RNA (ribonucleic acid) - the brain substance that stores memory.

He is approached by the CIA, which wants him to try a weird and dangerous experiment: remove the RNA from Hauser, a dying German scientist who has defected from the Russians, and inject it into another man in hope of releasing the German's secrets.

First, Cory is appalled, but Slaughter, the CIA man, has thought of everything - even to providing a suitable subject for the extraordinary experiment.

And the experiment succeeds - but not as either Slaughter or Cory had anticipated. Hauser's memory is transferred, but not only his memory: his obsessions, his character, his emotions, his dreams. The bitter struggle as Hauser's memory tries to posses its new mind, the dead German's mono-maniacal drive that soon has security elements from both East and West involved in an international chase from California to Czechoslovakia, the final chilling confrontation between the man who is now Hauser and the object of Hauser's search.
