Description

Images of Barbarossa is an illustrated account of the greatest land invasion in history. On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched operation Barbarossa, the German attack on the Soviet Union. Over 3,000,000 soldiers, more than 3,000 tanks, and over 2,000 aircraft advanced eastward to destroy Bolshevism and carve out "living space" for the Thousand Year Reich. During the first weeks of the invasion, the Germans achieved staggering results, as whole Soviet armies were annihilated. But as Wehrmacht advanced deeper into Russia, casualties mounted and the Red Army's manpower seem inexhaustible. Soviet doggedness and the brutally cold Russian winter combined to halt the Germans before a Soviet counterattack sent them reeling.
