Description

Any man who would rule at Tara, the sagas claimed, had to pass four tests before becoming king. He had to mount the royal chariot without frightening the steeds; drive the chariot through two sacred flagstones that were mysteriously to open before him; don a special mantle kept by the druids and show that it fit him exactly; and when he touched the Lia Fail, or "Stone of Destiny," it had to scream its approval of his kingship. Only then would he be hailed king of Tara, the greatest king in all of Ireland.
