Description

In 1914 the world plunged into the "Great War", World War I. It was the first war that saw the large-scale use and deployment of vehicles were used to rush troops to the front and wounded away from it.

The wars that followed, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, have seen a steady improvement in the effectiveness, range, reliability and lethality of aircraft and fighting vehicles. Highly mobile forces of tanks and trucks supported by aircraft, known to the Germans as "Blitzkrieg", defined World War II. Korea saw a continuation and refinement of battlefield strategy to include the use of helicopters for reconnaissance and medical evacuation. The war in Vietnam saw the use of the small-scale units with armor and helicopters that helped define a new era of tactics and strategy.

The Gulf War, with its berms and large-scale tank battles, harked back to the two World Wars, albeit with much more accurate fire from both the ground and from above. Smart bombs, satellites, and Special Forces soldiers on horseback fought the most recent war in Afghanistan.
