Description

LA FIERE, NORMANDY, 6 June 1944: Following their successful drop, intact and in almost perfect order, Able Company of the 505th P.I.R. moved speedily to their D-Day objective: the Merderet bridge at La Fiere. The large manor house adjacent to the river bridge had been occupied earlier that night by a detachment of the 1057th Grenadier Regiment of the 91st Division: 28 men in all. First to draw fire from the vicinity of the manoir was Lieutenant Presnell of 1st Platoon.

His team was followed soon after by the remainder of Able Company, and later by a succession of groups including elements of all the scattered parachute regiments of the 82nd Airborne Division. Each in turn advanced to contact and made their uncoordinated moves against the manoir, quite unaware of the presence of numerous friendly forces. The German resistance was finally worn down, the outpost soon surrendering to a band of 82nd paratroopers who promptly moved on to Cauquigny. As fire slackened about the manoir, Able Company displaced forward to take up positions around the bridge. As they dug their foxholes, the sound of approaching tanks could be heard across the Merderet River.

Talented module designer and military historian Ian Daglish (dec.) left us all too soon in 2011. Ian's craftsmanship combined expert map recreations and historical research, as well as a burning passion for all things to do with the Battle of Normandy. La Fiere was the place it all started, CH's exploration into the historical module, Ian's collaboration, and the beginning of what would culminate in his successful career as a published military history author for Pen & Sword books. And now Kellam's Bridge is back in a new edition with standard hexsize map, new counters, new art, the original historical and game-play booklet in a new version, and more. You receive 325th Glider Infantry Regiment-badged MMCs, the correct Hotchkill tanks in 1944 colors with APCR, historical named leaders. You also receive a bonus set of Glider counters for use with other scenarios that use them in both Waco CG4 and Horsa models.
