Description

Hungarian soldiers could rely on a variety of support from the Hungarian Artillery Group, including the powerful 149mm howitzer which provided artillery support and the Bofors-designed 80mm Heavy anti-aircraft gun. In a tight situation the 80mm AA could be used as an anti-tank weapon along with the fearsome 75mm 40M guns of the Assault Anti-Tank Platoon.

Heavy Anti-Aircraft Platoon

Hungarian heavy anti-aircraft fire was provided by the men manning the 80mm 29/38M guns. These Bofors-designed guns also made good anti-tank weapons when desperation called for it.

Artillery Battery

The artillery of the infantry divisions has undergone changes since 1943. The infantry’s artillery fights with 100mm 14M Skoda howitzers as the standard weapons instead of the now retired 80mm gun. The medium batteries are now armed with 149mm 14/31M howitzers.

Assault Anti-Tank Platoon

The men of the Hungarian assault artillery were considered elite. While many of these men fought in assault guns like the Zrinyi or Hetzer, some units didn’t get vehicles and instead were armed with 75mm 40M (German PaK40) anti-tank guns. These assault artillery troops were often attached to units that needed a boost to their firepower.
