Description

Please note that this is a DTP (Desk Top Publishing) game designed on a desktop computer and all components, including the counters which will have to be cut and mounted, are printed on paper. These are designed by some very well-known designers and are a low cost alternative to today's professionally produced games. On rare occasions, some of these games are reproduced by other companies with higher quality components including die-cut counters but most of them are not. If you believe this game to have a professionally produced version, please contact us with your inquiry and we will help you to locate it if it does indeed exist.

BREAKOUT simulates the great combined arms offensive of the Russian Civil War during the Summer of 1920. The game comes with one 11x17 inch map, 280 counters and rulebook. The battle was unique, for General Wrangel combined his airforces (British bombers) and 20+ MkV tanks into one crushing concentrated blow to bust out of the narrow confines of the Crimea. Within days, the White Army that had been defeated six months earlier was once again a major threat to the Reds. The White forces once again seemed to be invincible as their tanks rolled towards Kahovka along the Dneipr River. The Reds were in a state of shock as Polish Armies also threated them! As Wrangel's forces continued to advanced onto the open and vast plains, the size of his small force (25,000-30,000 men) lost its edge as they tried to cover the vast expanses. By mid-June, the Reds had handled the Polish attack and focused their attention on Wrangel, whose forces at taken Melitpol. The Red counterattack using a full cavalry corps ripped through the gaps and forced wrangel's right flank to turn and retreat. Wrangel hardly had any cavalry to halt them rampage--but he did have DH9A bombers. His bombers took off and met the cavalry in one of history's great air to ground attack.

Breakout from the Crimea! comes with the following:
One 11x17" color game map
Over 280 playing pieces
One Rulebook
Playing Aid Card

Game scale: Three day turns (12 in all), mostly regiments, except for tanks, aircraft, armor trains, MGs. Each hex is around 1-2 miles. The game is operational. Those who own 200 Miles to Moscow will feel right at home but for some new rules like Cloase Assaults and combat system. Basically, the first half will the find the White armada of tanks and bombers unstoppable in the concentrated confines of the neck of the Crimea. However, after the breakout rides deep into the vast expanses of the Crimea, the tables turn and the Reds have a very potent item also--the Zhloby Cavalry Corps, which meets its nemisis from above--white DH9 Bombers! The later half will find the Whites hard pressed to hold on. This is a fun and wild game on one of the last great battles after General Wrangel took over to carry on the cause!!!! Random events are always the great fear of any leader and here, even the Reds have some tanks and aircraft--but, will they use them?
