Description

Isolated from the world, the vast kingdoms of the dwarves wax and wane hidden from the view of other races, fighting invisible battles against foes only they know. They smile inwardly when other races accuse them of insularism, of not giving full support when asked, when they never ask for any when facing the innumerable dangers of their underground homes.

Dwarves are monolithic in bearing and attitude to the point that many believe that they are all alike, gruff warriors that hide behind their beards and armor. The truth lies in just the same way as their kingdoms: deep beneath the surface. The halls of stone of dwarves invite none and accept none, being better protected than the communities of any of the other races and having contact with the outside only through their trade with outsiders, through their adventurers or through ambassadors who never get to see the full extent of a dwarven hold.

Dwarves are not unfriendly despite all the appearances, their culture steeped in customs and traditions is not easy to understand, and they do not try to explain it to outsiders, content on carrying their honor and pride with them wherever they go.

The Advanced Tactics series takes an advanced look at the whole range of class and racial sourcebooks from Mongoose Publishing, all designed to greatly widen a player’s options for his character within the d20 games system. More than simple continuations, the second series of Quintessential books slot seamlessly into any fantasy-based campaign, giving advanced alternatives for characters of one class or race within the game, allowing both players and Games Masters the chance to give mid- and high-level characters new options without overpowering or unbalancing the game as a whole. The Advanced Tactics series will not necessarily allow players to make their characters even better, but they will be able to do a lot more than they ever thought possible before.

With the help of this sourcebook, any character choosing to play a dwarf character will find many alternatives and options expanding his range of abilities. With racial paths, dwarves can attune themselves with an aspect of their culture and gain special benefits from their closeness to their own blood; multiclassing takes a look at the various options that a dwarf character has to assume a traditional role by mixing the talents of different classes, and with legendary classes, he can embark upon a road that will take him to epic levels and beyond. Superior tools offer a glimpse to the way that dwarves work and what they equip to their more respected members with, followed by a look of what special magic the dwarves have devised to follow their ethos of tradition and respect. Tricks of the trade expands upon the methods that dwarves learn at any point in their lives, while dwarven engineering shows what these underground workers are really capable of when they set their minds to something. Finally, a look at dwarven clans pries open some of this race’s most guarded secrets and traditions.

Dwarves are a fascinating race, following the ideals of order, tradition and honor, respecting their betters and aiding their lesser with equal ceremony and educated politeness. Short of stature but great of spirit, dwarves leave an indelible mark upon any adventure, and The Quintessential Dwarf II: Advanced Tactics provides all the necessary tools for any dwarf adventurer to become a legend.
